Used Acura MDX Engine

Acura is a luxury division of Honda. Albeit a Japanese parent company, Acura is primarily based in the U.S. Operating since, 1986, Acura sold their cars in other markets such as Canada, Mexico, Panama, and Kuwait. However, they never sold models in their homeland, Japan. Honda planned to launch Acura in Japan in the mid-2000s. However, it didn't eventuate amid the financial crisis of 2007-08. Used Acura MDX Engine is more relevant in North America than in Japan.

In the United States, Acura managed to oust the likes of other luxury brands such as BMW and Benz. It also led to Toyota's Lexus and Nissan's Infiniti. These Japanese carmakers followed suit in launching their luxury division in the United States. However, Acura first brought the Honda's VTEC to the U.S. territory. The 'Acu' in the brand name, Acura, is a Latin word loosely translated to be mechanically precise.

Acura MDX

MDX is a mid-sized Acura launched in 2000. It is a luxury crossover SUV with 3-row seating. The MDX stands for multi-dimensional luxury. Moreover, it is the second best selling SUV in mid-size luxury, only next to Lexus RX in the United States. Interestingly, it is the first luxury crossover SUV to feature the standard three-row seating. It shares its platform with the Honda Pilot, an eight-person SUV.

Introduced as the 2001 model, it replaced the Isuzu Trooper in U.S. markets. Also, it replaced the Honda Horizon in Japan, again based on Trooper. It was rebadged as the Honda MDX for Japan and Australia. Four generations were launched for this model in the United States. It ranked as the North American Car of the Year Utility Finalist for 2009. Also, Motor Trend magazine listed MDX as an SUV of the Year Contender in 2017. The car has sold 40k to 60k units annually since 2001.

First Generation MDX

The first-generation MDX featured a 3.5L SOHC V6 engine. It is fitted to a 5-speed automatic transmission. It is a 7-seater with smaller third-row seats. With a displacement of 3.5 L V6 engine pumping out horsepower and torque of 240 hp and 332 Nm respectively in the first two model years. They improved the engine to an additional 20 hp from the 2003 models. From 2004 to 2006, the engine produced 265 horses and 343 Nm of torque. The 2004 model raced to a top speed of 137 mph and does a 0 to 60 mph in just over 7 seconds. It offers decent fuel economy of 23 mph on the highway and 17 mph in the city.

Second Generation MDX

Unveiled at the New York International Auto Show, it was released in October 2006 in the United States. It has a wider track and longer wheelbase. It has an upgraded 3.7 L V6 engine. Its engine pumped out 300 horses @ 6000 RPM and 366 Nm of torque @ 5000 RPM. The engine races from a standstill to 60 mph in just 6.5 seconds. It offers an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 16 miles per US gallon in the city and 21 miles per US gallon on highways. It came with a power sunroof, Xenon low-beam highlights, and a leather interior.

Third Generation MDX

Unveiled at the North American International Auto Show, the productions began in 2013. Powered by a 3.5 L V6, it offers front-wheel drive for the first time in Canada. It ensured an EPA-estimated fuel economy with an improved 18 miles per gallon in the city and 27 miles per gallon on the highway in an all-wheel drive model. However, the front-wheel drive offers an improved fuel economy of 20 miles per gallon in the city and 28 miles per gallon on the highway. This gasoline engine is fitted to any of the three transmission models - 6-speed automatic, 9-speed automatic, and 7-speed DCT transmission models.

Fourth Generation MDX

Honda unveiled the fourth generation MDX as a prototype in October 2020. It went into production in 2021, with Type-S released in the same year. It uses a 3.5 L V6 engine mated with a 10-speed transmission. The Type S trim model got a 3 L turbocharged V6.
