The final generation TL premiered in 2008 with the 2009 model year. Acura ended production in 2014, only to be replaced by the TLX. The four-door sedan sold over 16k units during its launch in 1995. The sales peaked at over 70k units consecutively from 2004 to 2006.

First Generation TL

The first generation TL is also rebadged as the Honda Inspire, Honda Saber, and Honda Vigor. It was produced in the U.S. from 1996 to 1998 for model years 1996 to 1998. It used a longitudinal front engine and front-wheel drive layout. First Generation TL offered three engine options - 2 L inline-5, 2.5 L inline-5, and 3.2 L V6 engine. The 2.5 inline-5 engine pulled out a horsepower of 176 hp. The 3.2 L V6 produced a massive horsepower of 200 hp. Moreover, the engine is mated with a 4-speed automatic, much to the liking of U.S. drivers.

Second Generation TL

The second generation TL is also rebadged as the Honda Inspire and Honda Saber. First Generation TL was produced in the U.S. from August 1998 to September 2003 for model years 1999 to 2003. It used a transverse front engine and front-wheel drive layout. It offered three engine options - 2.5 L. 3.2 L V6 and 3.2 L V6 for Type S models. The 3,2 V6 engine pulled out a horsepower of 225 hp. The 3.2 L V6 for Type S produced an added horsepower of 260 hp. Moreover, the engine is fitted with a 4-speed automatic transmission. Additionally, they used 5-speed automatic for models years of 2000 and later. The engine is assembled in the Marysville Auto Plant.

Third Generation TL

The third generation TL is designed by Jon Ikeda and assembled in Marysville Auto Plant. Third Generation TL was produced in the U.S. from 2004 to 2008 for model years 2004 to 2008. It used a transverse front engine and front-wheel drive layout. It offered three engine options - 3.2 L V6 and 3.2 L V6 for Type S models. The 3,2 V6 engine pulled out a horsepower of 225 hp. The 3.2 L V6 for Type S produced an added horsepower of 260 hp. Moreover, the engine is fitted to a 5-speed automatic and 6-speed manual transmission.

Fourth generation TL

The fourth generation TL offered two engine options - 3.5 V6 producing 280 horses and 3.7 L V6 producing 305 horses. It is fitted to a 5-speed automatic from 2009 to 2011. Later, they used a 6-speed automatic from 2012 to 2014. Additionally, they also provided the 6-speed manual transmission option.
