Second Generation Escort

Also called the Ford Laser in Asia, the second generation Ford Escort went into production from 1990 to 1996 for the model years between 1991 and 1996. It was assembled in the Michigan Assembly plant and Wayne Stamping & Assembly plant. The model offered two engine options - the 1.8 L BP inline-4 and the 1.9 L CVH inline-4. It is mated with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission. The 1.9 L CVH produced 88 horses and 146 Nm of torque. 

Featuring models from 1991 to 1996, it used the sequential fuel injection (SEFI) system. It powered the standard a.k.a pony or LX variants. Similarly, the 1.8 L Mazda BP inline-4 engine produced 127 hp and 155 NM of torque. Featuring models from 1991 to 1996, it used the multi-port fuel injection system. It powered the GT and LX-E variants. The second generation Escort sold over 500k units in 3-door and wagon versions. A total of 1.73 million units were sold.

Third Generation Escort

The third generation Ford Escort went into production from 1996 to 2002 for the model years between 1997 to 2002. It was assembled in the Michigan Assembly plant in Wayne, Michigan. It is based on the Mazda B platform and related to the Mazda Protege and Mercury Tracer. They offered two engine options - 2.0 L SPI2000 SOHC inline-4 and 2.0 L Zetec DOHC inline-4 engines. The engines are mated with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission. The 2.0 L CVH engine pumped out 110 horses @ 5,000 RPM and 169 Nm of torque @ 3,750 RPM. The Zetec DOHC inline-4 offered 130 hp @ 5,750 RPM and 173 Nm of torque @ 4,250 RPM in model years from 1998 to 2003. For the 1999 and 2000 model year, the Zetec DOHC inline-4 produced 143 horses and 198 Nm of torque.
