Ford Mustang

It is an irreplaceable part of the American Car culture. With continuous production since 1964, it is the longest-produced Ford. The model has entered its seventh generation today. Also, it is the fifth-best-selling Ford in the United States. In the pony car segment, it is marked by its longer hood and shorter deck. More than 400k units were sold in the first year since its introduction in 1964. More than a million units were sold within just two years of its launch. By 2018, Ford produced over 10 million Mustangs. Ford Mustang shares its chassis with many of the other Ford models. Also called the T5, it has been in production since 1964. Based on the front-engine, rear-wheel drive layout, it used various body styles including a 2-door coupe, 2-door hatchback, 2-door fastback, and 2-door convertible. 

First Generation Mustang

The first generation Ford Mustang went into production from 1984 to 1973 for model years between 1965 and 1973. Also, called the Ford T5, it was assembled at the Ford River Rouge Complex in Michigan, the San Jose Assembly plant in California, and the Edison Assembly plant in New Jersey. 

Second Generation Mustang

The second generation Ford Mustang featured three different engines - Lima inline-4, Cologne V6 and Windsor V8. The engines are mated to the standard 4-speed manual transmissions and the optional 3-speed C3 automatic.

Third Generation Mustang

The engines for the third generation Ford Mustang include 2.3 L inline-4, 2.8 L V6, and 4.9 L V8 engines. Also, the 2.3 L turbocharged inline-4 reappeared in the 1983 turbo GT. Besides, they offered the 4.2 L V8 in 1982. 

Fourth Generation Mustang

The base model featured a 3.8 OHV V6, which produced 145 horses from 1994 to 1995. They boosted it to 150 horses from 1996 to 1998. The engines were mated with the standard 5-speed manual transmissions. Ford also offered the 4-speed automatic as an option. 

Fifth Generation Mustang

The base model uses the 4.0 L SOHC cast-iron block V6 pumping out 210 horses. GT used the 4.6 L SOHC aluminium block V8 producing 300 horses. The engines are fitted with a 5-speed manual transmission as standard and a 5-speed automatic as an option.

Sixth Generation Mustang

The sixth generation Ford Mustang used the 2.3 L Ecoboost 4-cylinder engine producing 310 horses. The 3.7 L V6 and 5.0 L Coyote engines pumped out 300 horses and 435 horses respectively. These engines are mated to either a 6-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual transmission.

Seventh Generation Mustang

Ford exhibited the seventh generation Ford Mustang at the 2022 Detroit Auto Show. The special event on September 12 is also called the Stampede. Its 2.3 L Ecoboost turbocharged 4-cylinder delivers 315 horses. The Dark Horse and Coyote V8 deliver 500 and 486 horses respectively.
