Used Porsche Engine

Used Porsche engine enjoys a very niche market. The German carmaker specializes in sports cars, SUVs, and sedans. Owned by Volkswagen AG, they deal in the luxury division of automobiles. Their celebrated lineup includes 911, 718, Taycan, Macan, Cayenne and Panamera. They set a record year in 2015, selling close to 52k cars in the United States. Since 1984, they have been in operation in the United States. Porsche Cars North America Inc. is the official importer of Porsche models. In addition, their motorsports heritage spans over 30,000 wins to date. Their imminent presence in the USA challenges some of the top luxury brands here. Let's look at some of their top engines and why you should consider buying one from Turbo Autoparts.

Porsche M97.74

This is the absolute peak of the Porsche 911 997 generation and Mezger engine combined. RSR race car lent some auto parts to this stellar engine. They upgraded the 3.8 L engine in the regular 997 GT3 RS to a 4.0 L flat-6. It returned horsepower and torque of 500 hp and 339 lb-ft respectively. Moreover, all of this featured 8,500 RPM levels. It proved so powerful that it continued in the following 991 and 992 generations. Also, they employed the 4.0 L naturally aspirated engine in the GT3 lineup. The RS 4.0 proved well ahead of the time, on the back of PDK transmissions and high-end safety features.

Porsche 911/83

This is a solo air-cooled production engine in the list of top Porsche engines. It powered the iconic 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 RS. The combination of 911/83 and 2.7 RS resulted in the swift creation of 911 of the time. Moreover, it powered the 911 to the 2500 to 3000 cc racing class range. The engine helped Porsche compete with Ferrari Daytonas and DeTomaso Panteras. Initially, it was not allowed for mainstream use in the United States, barring racing and exhibitions. They didn't address the emission restrictions in the United States, much to one's liking. It was a tad more suited to European automotive markets rather than American markets.

Porsche 980/01

The Porsche 980/01 is a genuine race car engine. Porsche engineers were tasked with developing a naturally aspirated V10 in the 90s. Later, it is to be used in race cars for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Albeit never coming to fruition, the efforts didn't go in vain. The brand decided to adapt and use the engine in the Carrera GT. Moreover, they created a more powerful version than the original. That's how you got the 5.7 L naturally aspirated V10 returning 612 hp @ 8,000 rpm and 435 lb-ft of torque @ 5,750 rpm. Hence, the Carrera GT reached a top speed of 205 mph. Also, it raced from a standstill to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds and to 100 mph in 6.9 seconds.

Porsche TTE P01

The Porsche TTE P01 is a Tag Turbo engine developed by Porsche and funded by TAG. It was made to be used in the McLaren F1 team in the eighties. It is a 1.5 L twin-turbocharged V6, returning 750 to 1000 horses. Depending on the trims the horsepower varies, to suit the McLaren MP4/2 and MP4/3 race cars. It also featured in the Porsche 930 Turbo and served as a test model with no production units ever made. This powerhouse revs more than 10,000 rpm, racing it to high performance. The TAG Turbo powered the McLarens from 1984 to 1987m winning the 2 Constructors' Titles and 3 Drivers' Championships. However, they used top drivers including Alain Prost, Nikky, and Keke. Hence, Porsche's stint in Formula One is more than a cameo.

Porsche MDH.NA

991 GT2 RS2 played the swansong of Porsche 6-cylinder engines. It is more close to the Turbo S than the 911 GT3 RS. It is MDH.NA, a revamped Turbo S engine sits at the centre of GT2. The 3.8 L flat-6 got larger variable-geometry turbos. Also, it gained an increased peak boost of 22.5 psi, 24% higher than Turbo S. With larger intercoolers and exhaust manifold primaries working in tandem, it returns a horsepower and torque of 700 horses @ 7000 rpm and 553 lb-ft respectively. Moreover, the brand has long given up on the notion of turbo-lag in their models. The engine helped the GT2 RS to production record at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife, setting a lap time of 6:43.300.
