Acura TL

Acura launched the TL, an executive car in the United States. Debuting in 1995, it replaced the Acura Vigor in the U.S. It was badged as the Honda Inspire for the Japanese markets. Later, it also featured as the Honda Saber from 1996 to 2004. Until outsold by MDX in 2007, it proved as the best selling model from Acura. Also, it is the second best selling luxury sedan in the U.S., only next to BMW 3 Series. The sales decreased only after its 2008 model year. The model spanned four generations. Later, along with TSX, it was replaced by TLX. During its launch, the Acura TL replaced the Acura Vigor.

First Generation TL

The first generation TL went into production from 1995 to 1998 for model years from 1996 to 1998. Acura assembled it at the Sayama Plant in Saitama, Japan. Moreover, it used a longitudinal front-engine and front-wheel drive layout. It came with three engine options - 2.0 L inline-5, 2.5 L inline-5 and 3.2 V6. All the engines are fitted with 4-speed automatic transmissions. The 2.5 L engine pumped out 176 horses, while the 3.2 L engine produced 200 horses. The first generation TL is also called Honda Inspire, Honda Saber, and Honda Vigor in overseas markets.

Second Generation TL

The second generation TL went into production from 1998 to 2003 for model years from 1999 to 2003. Designed by Young Choi and Michael P. May in 1996, the models were assembled at Marysville Auto Plant. It used a transverse front-engine and front-wheel drive layout. Also, it came with three engine options - 2.5 L inline-5, 3.2 L V6, and 3.2 V6 (Type S). All the engines are fitted with 4-speed automatic transmissions. Additionally, they used a 5-speed automatic transmission from the 2000 model year. The 3,2 L engine pumped out 225 horses, while the 3.2 L (Type S) engine produced 260 horses. The second generation TL is also called Honda Inspire and Honda Saber in overseas markets.

Third Generation TL

The third generation TL went into production from 2003 to 2008 for model years from 2004 to 2008. Designed by Jon Ideka in 2001, the models were assembled at Marysville Auto Plant. It used a transverse front-engine and front-wheel drive layout. It came with three engine options - 3.2 L V6 and 3.5 V6 (Type S). All the engines are fitted with 5-speed automatic transmissions. Additionally, they used a 6-speed manual transmission for hot rod enthusiasts. The 3,2 L engine pumped out 270 horses, while the 3.5 L (Type S) engine produced 286 horses.

Fourth Generation TL

The fourth generation TL went into production from 2008 to 2014 for model years from 2009 to 2014. Designed by Dave Marek in 2006, the models were assembled at Marysville Auto Plant. It used a front-engine and FWD or AWD layout. It came with three engine options - 3.5 L V6 and 3.7 V6 (SH-AWD). The engines were fitted to 5-speed automatic transmission from 2009 to 2011. Later, they fitted a 6-speed automatic transmission from 2012 to 2014. Additionally, they also offered the optional 6-speed manual transmission.
