Used Rover Transmission Models

Used Rover Transmission

Rover is a British marque which has served from 1904 to 2005. Its history dates back even further to 1878, as a bicycle maker. Since 2013, they are owned by the Jaguar Land Rover. The previous owners include Rover company, Leyland Motors, British Leyland, Rover Group, BMW, MG Rover, and Land Rover. From Rover 9 to Rover 10 To Rover Speed 20 to Rover 16 to Rover P6, they had many flagships from the original Rover Company. Several rebrands from the Rover Group include Rover Mini, Rover Metro, Maestro and Montego, Hence, the used Rover transmission will be in demand for generations to come. Let's look at the evolution of Rovel models from the lens of engines and transmissions.

Rover introduced themselves to the grand stage with their 1904 Rover 8 mode. Fitted with a 1.3 L engine and 3-speed manual transmission, it produced up to 8 bhp and a top speed of 24 mph. By 1906, their Rover 6 downsized to 6 bhp and a top speed of 16 mph. As a major upgrade, the 1907 Rover 20, the 3.2 L engine produced horsepower of 20 hp and reached a top speed of 45 mph. Later, their 1911 Rover 12 reached a top speed of 50 mph. They upped it with the 1924 Rover 14/45 reached a top speed of 60 mph, and the 1926 Rover 16/50 reached a top speed of 77 mph. These are models, you only see as collector's items or in an exhibit or museum.

Manual Transmission Models

Rover added a few more models such as the 1919 Rover 8 and 1922 Rover 8 Van before they ventured into 4-speed transmission in 1924. Since then, they parallelly released both 3-speed and 4-speed transmission-powered models. The 1924 Rover 14/45 achieved a top speed of 60 mph. A couple of years later, they reached a top speed of 77 mph with their 1925 Rover 16/50. Later, their 1936 Rover 16 P2 raced from 0 to 60 mph in 24.3 seconds. Their 2.1 L engine pumped up to 72 hp and reached a top speed of 81 mph. Their flagship of the time, the 1939 Rover 20 P2 reached a top speed of 85 mph and raced from standstill to 60 miles per hour in just over 20 seconds. The early 1950s saw the releases of 3-speed and 4-speed manual transmissions from the Rover brand.

The 1956 Rover 105S P4 came fitted with the 5-speed manual transmission. It first reached a top speed of 100 mph in Rover lineups. The 2.6 L engine produced up to 108 hp and raced from 0 to 60 mph within 15 seconds. Moreover, their flagship post-1950s, the Rover 95 P4 happened in 1962. With a long bonnet, it reached a top speed of 91 mph and recorded 0 to 60 mph in 18.3 seconds. More than power and performance, it was about the comfort on offer. Interestingly, Rover reverted to a 4-speed manual transmission in their 1966 Rover PG Mark I 2000 TC. The 5-speed manuals entered into the 80s in the form of the 1983 Rover SD1 Series 2 2600 S model. In the late eighties, the 1989 Rover 200 MK 11 R8 came fitted with a 5-speed manual transmission. The 5-speed manual continued till the discontinuation of Rover line-ups up to until 2004 Rover 45 2.0 TD Facelift.

Automatic Transmission Models

Rover debuted in automatic transmission cars with their 1957 Rover 105S De Luxe P4. It recorded a decent top speed of 94 mph and 0 to 60 in 17.9 seconds. Fitted with its 2.6 L engine, it produced horsepower of up to 108 hp. Rover launched another 3-speed, the 1958 P5 Mark 1 which reached top speed of 94 mph and did a 0 to 60 in 18.5 seconds. The 1966 Rover PG Mark 1 2000 SC proved a hot-selling car with a 3-speed automatic transmission. Later, the 1968 Rover PG Mark I 3500 S raced 0 to 60 in just over 10.1 seconds. 4-speed automatic featured in the 1988 Rover 800 MI 1 820 Fastback model, powered by a 2 L engine producing 96 hp.

Post 90s, Rover 800 MK II R17 reached a top speed of 131 mph and raced from 0 to 60 mph in 9.6 seconds. They followed it up with the grand-looking 1992 Rover 200 MK II R8, which raced up to 117 miles per hour. Later, they came up with the 1992 Rover 800 coupe, fitted with 2.6 engine capacity. In the late 90s and early 2000s, Rover mainstreamed the 5-speed manual transmission, rather than the 4-speed automatic. They moved into a 5-speed automatic, with their 2001 2.0 CDT Tourer being a runaway hit. They launched more of the 4-speed automatics towards their last, including the 2004 75 V8.
