Ford Country Squire

Ford Country Squire is a series of full-size station wagons from Ford. It has model years from 1950 to 1991, spanning a whopping eight generations. Country Shire sports either a 2-door or 4-door station wagon look. It replaced the 1948 Ford Station Wagon in the United States. It is fitted to either 3-speed or 4-speed manual or 3-speed automatic. As a Custom, it sold over 31k units in 1949 alone.

Second generation (1952–1954)

These Country Shires were assembled at the Dearborn MI plant. The 1952-1953 Country Shire featured a 3.9 L Flathead V8, pumping out 110 horses. Later, they replaced it with the Y-Block V8 in the 1954 model year. With the same displacement, it produced 100 to 130 horses. The 3.7 L inline-6 is the standard, producing 115 horses.

Third generation (1955–1956)

The third generation Country Shire featured 3.7 L Mileage Maker Inline-6, pumping out 120 horses. Moreover, it offered multiple V8 options with varying power outputs. The 4.5 Y-Block V8, 4.8 L Thunderbird V8, and 5.1 L Thunderbird produced up to 182 hp, 198 hp, and 225 hp respectively.

Fourth generation (1957–1959)

Fourth-generation Country Shire uses a variety of engines. The 3.7 L Mileage Maker inline 6 produces 114 horses. The Thunderbird V8 pumped out 212 hp on a displacement of 4.8 L. The 5.0 L Thunderbird produced 245 hp in 4-barrel, 270 hp in dual 4-barrel, and 300 hp in supercharger configurations.

Fifth generation (1960–1964)

The fifth generation Country Shire offered multiple engine options including 3.7 L Mileage Maker inline-6, 4.8 L Y-Block V8, 4.3 L Windsor V8, 4.7 L Windsor V8, 5.8 L FE V8, and 6.4 FE V8. Optimally, the 6.4 L FE V8 engine pumped out a massive horsepower of 300 hp.

The sixth generation Country Shire went into production from 1965 to 1968. It offered various engine options including 4.9 L Windsor V8, 5.8 L Windsor V8, 6.4 L FE V8, 7.0 L 385 V8, 6.6 L Cleveland V8, 7.5 L 385 V8 and 5.8 L Cleveland V8. It is mated to either a 3-speed manual transmission or a 3-speed automatic.

Eighth generation (1979–1991)

The eighth-generation Country Shire went into production from 1979 to 1991. It offered either 4.9 L 5.0 Windsor V8 or 5.8 L 51 Windsor V. It is mated to the 4-speed AOD automatic.
