Acura is a luxury division of Japanese automaker Honda. It is based primarily in the United States. Acu in Latin loosely translates to mechanical precision. They have been in operation since 1986. Based primarily in the U.S., they sell cars in Canada, Mexico, Panama, and Kuwait. Though their parent company is in Japan, they never sold cars in the homeland. Whereas, the 3 L V6 is part of the Honda J series. The J30A1 engine was also featured in the 1997–2002 Honda Accord V6 and the 1999–2003 Honda Avancier.
The F22B1 engine is the first F series engine with VTEC. With a 2.2 L engine displacement, it generates a horsepower of 145 hp @ 5,500 RPM. Also, it produced a torque of 199 Nm @ 4,500 RPM. Featuring a bore x stroke ratio of 85 mm x 95 mm, it offers a compression ratio of 8:8:1. This SOHC valvetrain uses 16 valves 4 valves per cylinder and VTEC. Besides the Acura CL, it also features in the 1994-1997 Honda Accord EX.
The F23A1 engine was featured in 1998-2002 Honda Accord LX, EX, and SE models, and the Acura 2.3CL. This 4-cylinder engine does 0 to 60 mph in around the mid-9 second mark. It offers a fuel economy of 23 miles per gallon in the city and 30 miles per gallon on the highway. Moreover, the F23A1 produces a torque of 206 Nm @ 4,900 RPM. Moreover, the SOHC engine offers 16 valves and VTEC. With a bore x stroke configuration of 3.39' x 3.82', it offers a compression ratio of 9:3:1.
The second generation CL was produced from 2000 to 2003 for the model years of 2001 to 2003. It has a body similar to the Acura Tl, Honda Accord, and Honda Pilot. The 3.2 L SOHC VTEC engine is part of the J series. This V6 engine is fitted to a 5-speed automatic and the 2003 edition is mated to the 6-speed manual transmission. The regular CL featured a massive horsepower of 222 hp and torque of 294 Nm respectively. In addition, the Type-S pulled a horsepower of 260 horses and torque of 315 Nm respectively. The 3.2 CL offered a fuel efficiency of 17 mpg in the city and 27 mph on the highway, and the 3.2 CL Type S offered 19 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.
