Used Acura RDX Engine

Acura is the luxury car division of Honda. Albiet, a Japanese carmaker being its parent company, Acura is based in the United States. Also, they sell cars in Mexico, Canada, Panama, and Kuwait. Honda planned to launch the marquee in Japan in the mid-2000s. Owing to the 2007-08 financial crisis, the plans could never eventuate. They have been in operation in the U.S., since 1986. The brand opened to significant success in the late 80s. However, it suffered waning sales figures in the 90s. Later, the brand revived in fortunes since they brought in new technologies in 2000. At its peak, Acura competed with the likes of BMW and Mercedes Benz. It inspired other Japanese brands, Toyota to launch the Lexus and Nissan to launch their Infiniti. It was the time of Japanese imports, with Acura importing Honda's VTEC into the U.S.

Acura RDX

Acura RDX is a compact luxury crossover SUV which sold in the U.S. They produced it in 2006 for the model year of 2007. It shares its platform with the Civic and CR-V. The 5-door SUV sold in decent numbers in the United States and Canada. It sold over 9k units in 2006 and over 23k units the following year in the United States. It sold over 44k units from 2013 to 2014, over 51k units from 2015 to 2017, and 62k units from 2018 to 2019. Even during the COVID-19 hit from 2020 to 2021, the model sold over 52k units annually. The Acura RDX engine is very much relevant in the United States automotive market. Moreover, the RDX model spanned over 3 generations, selling even today.

First Generation RDX

The first generation RDX debuted at the 2006 New York Auto Show. The standard and facelifted models went on sale in August 2006 and August 2009 respectively. Acura was designed by Jon Ikeda and assembled at the Marysville Auto Plant. Its 2.3 L straight-4 turbocharged alone engine pulled 240 hp @ 6,000 RPM and 350 Nm of peak torque @ 4,500 RPM. The K Series engine, K23A1 boasts an all-aluminum construction with an i-VTEC head and dual balance shafts. The variable flow turbochargers deal with the turbo lag, which uses the valve to narrow the exhaust at low RPM. It increases the velocity of exhaust flow while keeping the turbine spinning rapidly. Moreover, it offered an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 19 mph in the city and 23 mph on the highway.

Second Generation RDX

The second-generation RDX debuted at the 2012 North American International Auto Show. This turbocharged 4-cylinder turbocharged V6 engine offers a displacement of 3.5 liters. The J35Z2 engine is fitted with a six-speed automatic transmission. It offered an estimated EPA fuel economy of 20 mph in the city and 38 mph on the highway, aggregating to a combined fuel economy of 23 mpg. They replaced the SH-AWD system with the affordable AWD setup. The engine pumped out a horsepower of 268 hp @ 6,200 RPM and torque of 344 Nm @ 5,000 RPM. It uses a multi-point fuel injection system offering a compression ratio of 10.5:1. The engine featured in the 2008–2012 Honda Accord, 2010–2012 Honda Accord Crosstour, and 2007–2012 Honda Inspire models.

Third Generation RDX

Acura RDX debuted at the 2018 North American International Auto Show. The production begainat East Liberty, Ohio, and the model arrived at U.S. dealerships the same year. It uses the K20C4 (turbo) engine with an engine displacement capacity of 2 Liter. It pumps out 272 horses and 380 Nm of torque. Also, it returns a decent EPA estimated fuel economy of 22 mph in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, aggregating a combined fuel economy of 24 mpg. It is mated with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Randall Smock designed this engine, asssembled at the East Liberty, Ohio Acura assembly plant.
