Used Acura Rlx Engine Years

Used Acura RLX Engine

Acura is a luxury division of Honda, the Japanese carmaker. Being primarily based in the United States, they have been in operation since 1986. Also, they first introduced the Honda's VTEC in the United States. At Turbo Autoparts, we hold expertise in luxe components and Honda's engine technology. The 'Acc' in Acura, a Latin term loosely translates to being mechanically precise. Additionally, the logo styling resembling a Calipher, indicates industrial precision and accuracy. It extends to used Acura RLX engine as well.

Acura inspired Japanese brands to launch their luxury brands in the United States. Firstly, Toyota came up with the Lexus. Later, Nissan launched their Infiniti. Acura sold its units in Canada, Mexico, Panama, and Kuwait. However, it was never launched in Japan, after initial plans didn't eventuate amidst the financial crisis of 2007 to 2008. However, they sold in good numbers in the U.S.

Acura Rlx

Acura RLX is the brand's flagship model in the mid-size luxury segment. It replaced the RL posts its release in 2013. Later, the model was discontinued in 2020. It is also called the Honda Legend in Japan. Honda produced this model from 2012 to 2020 for the model years of 2014 to 2020. Designed by Hideaki Uchino, it is assembled in the Sayama, Saitama Plant. The 4-door sedan used an FF or F4 with an SH-AWD layout. Acura unveiled the RLX Concept in 2012, at the 2012 New York International Auto Show.

Later, they unveiled the production model at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show. Then, they put the models on sale in March 2013. Moreover, the Acura RLX comes in two versions - a FWD base model with P-AWS and a hybrid variant featuring SH-AWD. Also, Acura launched the RLX Sport Hybrid at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show. The U.S. sales began in 2014 with over 250 models in the 2014 model year and another 250 in the 2015 model year.

J35Y4 V6 Engine

With a displacement of 3.5 L, the J35Y4 engine offers a horsepower of 310 hp @ 6,500 RPM. Moreover, this torquey engine delivers 369 Nm @ 4,500 RPM. It uses a 24-valve SOHC VTEC-type valvetrain. With a bore and stroke dimension of 3.50' x 3.66', it offers a compression ratio of 11.5. It is a naturally aspirated engine using a direct fuel injection system. The fuel cutoff is set at 7,200 revs per minute. Besides Acura RLX, the J35Y4 engine features in Honda Legend. This V6 engine maintains a redline at 6,800 RPM.

Moreover, it uses Earth Dreams, an advanced Honda Advanced technology. Also, it uses variable cylinder management (VCM). It offers an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 20 miles per gallon in the city, and 30 miles per gallon on the highway, thereby aggregating a combined fuel economy of 23 miles per gallon. Fuel saving VCM system works with 3-cylinder and 6-cylinder configurations. Newer models use sophisticated engines, bypassing the need for 4-cylinder mode. Overall, it results in a lower NVH engine. The model scored a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration rating of 9.7. Also, it scores 'Good' rankings in terms of Insurance Institute for Highway Safety scores.

Honda J Series

It is the Honda's fourth production V6 engine introduced in 1996. It was introduced after the Honda C Series. Honda developed the engines at the Anna, Ohio, and Lincoln, Alabama plants. Contrary to the 90° C-series engines, it is a 60° V6 engine. It is designed specifically for the transverse mounting. With a short bore spacing and shorter connecting rods, its small crankshaft helped reduce the overall engine size. These are gasoline-powered engines using four valves per cylinder. The unique selling point of the Honda J Series engines is the Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) system. Turning off one bank of cylinders helps turn the V6 into a straight-3 engine.
