Used Ford Contour Engine Years

Used Ford Contour Engine

American or even global automotive history cannot be written without mentioning Ford in it. They bring over 120 years of heritage comprising innovation and dedication. Moreover, they are part of the Detroit 3 or the Big Three. Toyota ousted them from the Big 3 list for a short time. However, Ford quickly revived its fortunes in comparison with Toyota. With tons of thousands of Ford models running on the U.S. roads today, a used Ford Contour engine is relevant anyway. At Turbo Autoparts, we strive to bring highly reliable engines, which will surely put tons of thousands of miles on the road.

Ford Mondeo (first generation)

The first generation Ford Mondeo is dubbed the Ford Contour. It was also sold as the Mercury Mystique parallelly in North America. The Contour sold over 134k in 1999 and 45k in 2000 in the U.S. alone. It's a mid-size car that went into production in November 1992 and sold in March 1992. The facelifted version went into production from 1996 to 2001. Designed by John Oldfield in 1989, Ford assembled the Ford Contour in the Kansas City Assembly plant in Claycomo, Missouri. Closely related to the Ford Cougar, it uses the FF/AWD layout and Ford CDW27 platform. The Ford Mondeo bagged an exclusive section in the December 1992 issue of Autocar. The Ford Contour replaced the Ford Tempo, while the Mercury Mystique replaced the Mercury Topaz in the U.S.

Ford Contour

Along with the Mercury Mystique, the Ford Contour is the North American version of the first generation Ford Mondeo. As a 4-door sedan, Ford marketed it for the model years from 1995 to 2000. The production at Kansas City Assembly and Cuautitlan Assembly began in August 1994. Derived from the Mondeo MK1, Ford Contour used the Ford CDW27 platform. Unlike its European counterpart, the Ford Contour earned particular redesigns to suit the U.S. automobile markets. Nevertheless, it shared the same body structure, powertain, and suspension. The Contour remained the smallest sedan in the mid-size segment.

Ford Contour came in three different trims. The base-trim GL and the high-content LX sported the 2.0 L engine. The 2.5 L served as the standard on SE-trim. As part of the 1996's running change, the 'sport' option package was featured in GL and SE-trim models. The Ford Fusion replaced the Ford Contour in the Americas.

Ford Contour Engines

Ford Contour shared two engines with the Ford Mondeo - the 2.0 L Zetec inline-4 and the 2.5 L Duratec V6. The former pumped out 125 horses and the latter managed an even better 170 horses. However, the 1.8 L turbodiesel, a highlight of Mondeo never arrived in the Americas. Both these engines were given the 6-speed manual transmission as the standard feature. Also, they offered the 4-speed automatic as an option. However, the true Ford Contour's special is the 2.5 L Duratec 25 SVT V6 engine. The engine pumped out horsepower and torque of 195 hp and 224 Nm respectively in 1998. They sold 6,535 engines in 1998. The engine produced 200 horses and 229 Nm of torque in 1999-2000.

Ford produced 2,760 such engines in 1999 and 2,150 units in 2000. A total of 11,445 2.5 L Duratec 25 SVT V6 engines were produced from 1998 to 2000. The SVR engine included a larger throttle body from Duratec 30. Moreover, the SVT engine was featured in the European Ford Mondeo and Ford Cougar from 1998 to 2001. Called the ST2000, it again appeared in the American Ford Contour. The SVT engines were mated to both the 6-speed manual and 4-speed automatic transmissions.
