Used Nissan Engine

Nissan is another Japanese carmaker competing in the mid-sized price market. They are the sixth largest carmaker globally only next to Toyota, Volkswagen, Hyundai, General Motors, and Ford. They proved as the largest carmaker in North America in 2014. Moreover, they are the largest electric vehicle manufacturer globally in 2018. Also, they have 90 years of history in the automotive industry. Starting as Nissan Group, they also sell Infiniti and Datsun brands. Due to their immense presence, a used Nissan engine commands a huge demand in the U.S. car parts market. Furthermore, the Nissan Group features many engine series, from diesel to EV era. They started building engines in the Imperial Japanese Army days. Let's look into how they have evolved with their engine series and car models.

CA18DET Turbo Inline-4

The CA18DET is native to Silvia RS-X from model years 1987 to 1988, Silvia K from model years 1989 to 1990, and Euroform Twincam Turbo. With a displacement of 1.8 L, it returns a horsepower and torque of 167 hp and 166 lb-ft of torque respectively. It's a four-cylinder engine using the DOHC camshaft. Moreover, it is a low-cost version of the pricier SR20DET. It delivers an entry-level boost with factory turbocharging and intercooling.

VG30DETT Turbo V6

The VG30DETT engine found its place under the hood of the Nissan 300ZX from model years 1990 to 1996. Its 3.0 L engine pumps out a horsepower of 300 hp and 283 lb-ft of torque. It's a V6 using a 60-degree inclination and DOHC configuration. Its cast-iron block sits well below the pair of twin-cam cylinder heads. It also features NVTCS, one of Nissan's early adjustable valve timing controls. All of this flows via a couple of turbocharged with dedicated side-mounter intercoolers.

SR20DET Turbo Inline-4

The SR20DET is almost exclusive to Japan, being available in both the FWD and RWD variants. It is featured in Silvia K, Bluebird SSS Attesa, Silvia Spec-R, and more models. With a displacement of 2.0 L, it returns a horsepower and torque of 245 hp and 210 lb-ft respectively. It used the usual Nissan combination of a 4-cylinder DOHC layout. Its perfect geometry lends to the ideal balance between high RPM and low torque. The factory-manufactured T25 and T28 turbo helps a great deal.

RB26DETT Turbo Straight-6

RB26DETT Turbo Straight-6 is native to R32, R33, and R34 Skyline GT-R models. With a displacement of 2.6 L, it produces 280 horses and 289 lb-ft of torque. This is the most powerful RB engine promising a whole lot of power and performance. It features individual throttle bodies plus parallel-mounted twin-turbochargers.

RB25DET Turbo Straight-6

The RB25DET engine features R33 Skyline GTS-25t and R34 Skyline GT-T models. With a displacement of 2.5 L, it produces 276 horses and 253 lb-ft of torque. Though a couple of variations exist, the NEO version alone features a revised valvetrain and VCT. Also, it features top-speed fuel injectors along with a larger turbine housing structure.

VQ35DE V6

The VQ35DE engine is associated with 350Z and G35 from the model years of 2003 and later. In addition, they are available in over a dozen other chassis being replaced by the VG35HR. With an engine displacement of 3.0 L, it offers 300 horses and 274 lb-ft of torque. It is a 60-degree V6 and DOHC per bank configuration. Engine parts are easy to get, thereby making modifying relatively easy. It offers plenty of tuning options and hence pushes to 300 hp versions.

KA24DE Inline-4

The KA24DE is known for its association with 240 SX. However, other forward-wheel drive configurations are sourced from the Alitma model years of 1993 to 1997. With a displacement of 2.4 L, it offers a decent horsepower of 155 hp and 160 lb-ft of torque. The four-cylinder engine makes the best use of the DOHC configuration. Albeit not getting a boost, it's a big and strong engine. Larger displacements aren't possible with SR engines, owing to the delicate KA's grith.

VR38DETT Turbo V6

CA18DET Turbo Inline-4 featured as a standard-issue on every 2009-2020 R35 GT-R. The 3.8 L engine delivers a horsepower and torque of 565 hp and 467 lb-ft respectively. It's a 60-degree V6, using a Direct Overhead Camshaft model. It is dubbed as the king of Nissan engines. This all-aluminum engine employs two cames per head with CVTC technology. This engine is developed at the Yokohama plant by the most dedicated technicians of Nissan Group.
