Acura is the luxury car division from Honda. Albiet, a Japanese carmaker being its parent company, Acura is based in United States. Also, they sell cars in Mexico, Canada, Panama and Kuwait. Honda planned to launch the marquee in Japan since mid-2000s. Owing to 2007-08 financial crisis, the plans could never eventuate. They have been in operations in the U.S., since 1986. The brand opened to significant success in the late 80s. However, it suffered waning sales figures in the 90s. Later, the brand revived in fortunes since they brought in new technologies in 2000. In its peak, Acura competed with the likes of BMW and Mercedes Benz. It inspired other Japanese brands, Toyota to launch the Lexus and Nissan to launch their Infiniti. Acura RDX

Acura RDX is a compact luxury crossover SUV. It is Acura's second crossover SUV, only next to the mid-size MDX. The RDX shared its platform with the Honda Civic and CR-V. This 5-door SUV has been in production since 2006 for model years starting from 2007. It spanned three generations in North America. The model sold over 9k units in 2006 in the United States alone. Later, it rose to sales figures of 23k units in 2007. The sales grew by over 44k units annually in 2013 and 2014. First generation RDX

The first generation RDX went into production from 2006 to 2012 for model years from 2007 to 2012. Designed by Jon Ikeda, it was assembled at Marysville Auto Plant. It uses a front engine with an FWD or AWD layout. The first-generation models offered a 2.3 L turbo inline-4 engine. It produced horsepower of 240 hp @ 6,000 RPM and torque of 350 Nm @ 4,500 RPM. The all-aluminum engine used an i-VTEC head and dual balance shafts. It offered an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 19 mph in the city, and 23 mph on the highway, aggregating a combined fuel economy of over 20 mpg. Featuring SH-AWD, it used a 5-speed automatic transmission. Also, it came along with Acura's SportShift sequential for 2007 to 2009 model years.

Second generation RDX

The second generation RDX went into production from 2012 to 2018 for model years from 2013 to 2018. Designed by Toshinobu Minami in 2010, it was assembled at East Liberty Auto Plant. It uses a front engine with an FWD or AWD layout. The second-gen model offered 3.5 L V6. It produced horsepower of 268 hp @ 6,200 RPM and torque of 344 Nm @ 5,000 RPM. This is a 24-valve SOHC iVTEC engine with a multi-point fuel injection system. It offered an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 20 mph in the city, and 28 mph on the highway, aggregating a combined fuel economy of 23 mpg. The V6 engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Third generation RDX

The third generation RDX went into production in 2018 for model years from 2019. Designed by Randall Smock, it was assembled in East Liberty, Ohio Plant. It uses a front engine with an FWD or SH-AWD layout. The first-generation models offered a 2.0 L turbo Honda K series engine. It produced horsepower of 272 hp @ 6,500 RPM and torque of 280 Nm @ 1,600-4,500 RPM. The FWD model offered an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 22 mph in the city, and 28 mph on the highway, aggregating a combined fuel economy of over 24 mpg. The SH-AWD model offered an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 21 mph in the city, and 27 mph on the highway, aggregating a combined fuel economy of over 23 mpg. The 2019 Acura RDX employed a 10-speed automatic transmission. As per Acura, it allows the turbocharged engine to its peak capability in low-end torque.
