Acura ZDX

Acura ZDX is a mid-size premium crossover SUV launched in North American automotive markets. Interestingly, it was originally intended as the MSX model. They unveiled the ZDX model at the 2009 New York International Auto Show for its 2010 model year. It is the first Acura to be entirely designed at the South California design studio. Michelle Christensen penned the original ZDX concept design. He labeled it as the 4-door luxury sports coupe.

ZDX blurred the distinction between coupe, sedan, and sport utility car. It is the first Acura model, which features a 6-speed automatic transmission. It shares its design with the Honda Crossfour. Moreover, the Acura ZDX is based on the Acura MDX. ZDX nameplate returns to the Acura lineup in 2024 for Acura's first electric vehicle. It is planned to be co-developed with General Motors. It went into production from 2009 to 2013 for the model years from 2009 up until 2013.

First generation ZDX

The first generation ZDX went into production from 2009 to 2013 for model years between 2010 to 2013.They assembled the units in Alliston, Ontario plant. Designer Michelle Christensen provided designs for this model. It employed an all-aluminum 3.6 L SOHC V6 engine. Also, first generation ZDX used Honda's VTEC variable timing valve control system. It produced horsepower of 300 hp @ 6,300 RPM and torque of 366 Nm @ 4,500 RPM. Acura mated it with the 6-speed automatic transmission and SH-AWD layout.

The 6-speed automatic helped the first generation ZDX to top speeds. The body used a front-engine and four-wheel drive layout. The ZDX replaced the Acura RDX and later, the Acura MDX replaced the ZDX. It returned an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 16 miles per gallon in the city, and 22 miles per gallon on the highway, thereby aggregating a combined fuel economy of 19 miles per gallon. The first generation ZDX sold over 3k units in 2010, and over 1.5k units in 2011, in the United States alone.

Second Generation ZDX

Acura unveiled the electric ZDX in 2023. This all-electric vehicle brings the association of General Motors. Its Ultium architecture brings the colloboration of Cadilac, General Motors, and Honda. Second Generation ZDX comes with an A-Spec trim, using rear-motor and rear-wheel drive, and a Type S using dual motors and four-wheel drive. It uses the GM BEV3 platform. It is going to be a head-turner in U.S. roads next year. With an electric range of 320 mm, it's best for day-to-day usage.
