Used Isuzu Transmission

Isuzu is a top and large car maker from Japan. They indulge in the production, marketing, and sales of Isuzu cars. Moreover, they produced both commercial vehicles and diesel engines. Isuzu engines and transmissions are used interchangeably on other makes and models. Thus, the used Isuzu transmission will always be relevant in the U.S. car parts market. Operating for 89 years in Japan, the brand has a long history in the United States as well. To denote its Japanese origins, it's named after the Isuzu River and also the kanji of Isuzu, which means fifty bells. As much as exporting their tech, the Isuzu also incorporates engine, transmission, and parts from U.S. automobile brands. They have had many joint ventures with several top brands such as GMC, Ford, and General Motors. Their relationship with GM back to the 1920s. Let's look at the evolution of Isuzu models since the 1920s.

3-speeds and 4-speeds

The first Isuzu model in 1937 was the TX40. After a series of trucks in the 30s and 40s, they introduced the 1953 Hillman-Minx. Fitted with a 1.2 L engine and 4-speed manual transmission, this car pulled a horsepower of 42 hp and generated a top speed of 67 mph. Later, the 1961 Bellel, with its 1.5 L engine pumped out a 72 hp and reached a top speed of 82 mph. The 1963 Bellett using the same engine and transmission, did a 0 to 60 mph in 17 seconds. With a similar engine and transmission, the 1964 Bellett GT did 0 to 60 mph in 13.4 seconds. It generated top speeds a tad shy of the 100 mph mark. Reverting to a 3-speed manual, the 1965 Bellel Facelift used a 2 L engine, pumping out 67 hp. Reaching a top speed of 85 mph, the car accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in 19 seconds. However, they went up a notch with a 4-speed manual in the 1967 Bellet B model, reaching a top speed of 87 mph and accelerating from 0 to 60 in 15.7 seconds.

3-speed automatic transmission

The 1967 Florian first made use of the 3-speed automatic transmission. Featuring a 1584 cc engine, it pumped out a horsepower of 83 hp. It generated a top speed of 87 mph and did a 0 to 60 mph in 16.6 seconds. In the same year, they released the Elf (2nd Gen) using a 4-speed manual. The Japanese bus reached a top speed of 62 mph. Though these vehicles didn't arrive in the United States, it speaks volumes about the capacity of Isuzu engines and transmissions. However, Isuzu had to revert to a 4-speed manual to come up with the 1968 117 Coupe. The 1.5 L engine produced a horsepower of 118 hp, reaching a top speed of 124 mph and accelerating from 0 to 60 miles per hour within 11 seconds. Later, the 1969 Bellett GT-R bettered its 0 to 60 mph in under 10 seconds. Again, they confirmed the trend of 3-speed automatic transmission with their 1970 Florian Series II, doing 0 to 60 mph in just over 14 seconds.

Era of 6-speeds

Post 2000, Isuzu ventured into 6-speed manual transmissions. Leading up to it, it had many of its flagships in 4-speed automatic and 5-speed manual transmissions. Those were the transmissions, that flood the used car parts markets in the United States today. The 2000 Torquoise first used the 6-speed manual transmission in Isuzu lineups. The 1990 Stylus used a 5-speed manual transmission, reaching a top speed of 116 mph and accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 11 seconds. In terms of speed, the 1990 PA-Nero used a 5-speed manual transmission and a 1.6 L engine. The model produced horsepower 138 hp, reaching a top speed of 132 mph and accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 8.5 seconds. In a 4-speed automatic, they launched the 1991 Piazza (2nd Gen) reaching a top speed of 126 mph and accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 9.6 seconds.

Post 2010, Isuzu got into heavy-duty vehicles for the most part. It emphasizes their capability to make heavy-duty engines and transmissions. The amount of experience, the Japanese brand brings to the table is immense. Moreover, they tie up with many of the top American and Western brands to create engines and transmissions suited to local automobile markets. Used Isuzu transmissions are worth in gold, given it doesn't require immediate rebuilds. With proper calibration, you can put tons of thousands of miles on your car. Moreover, durable and reliable transmissions ensure the safety of your loved ones.
