Mobility Ventures's history begins with the dusk of Vehicle Production Group, widely known as the VPG. American Motors acquired assets of VPG in 2013, they created Mobility Ventures. Hence, it is a subsidiary of AM General, which makes and distributes Mobility Vehicle 1 via its dealer network. Thanks to Mobility Ventures, MV-1 production resumed in 2014. AM General didn't make any changes to the MV-1 in 2014. They updated it to Ford 3.7 liter V6 on later models. Also, the MV-1 was fitted with a 6-speed automatic transmission by AM General. They shifted 2000 models annually while building them on the same Indiana assembly line. Hence, the Mobility Ventures transmission is very relevant in the U.S. today. If not for the acquisition by AM General, you wouldn't have the socially responsible wheelchair passenger car now. Let's look more into how Mobility Ventures ventured into MV-1 post-2014.
Vehicle Production Group produced MV1 in 2011. In a couple of years, the company ceased production. Due to business troubles, they started laying off employees. In a short time, they
decided to shut the shop as well. It was all over once their finances dropped below the mandated threshold of the $50 million clean energy loan. The US Department of Energy awarded the benefit to VPG in 2011. It was then, that AM General got in talks with the US Department of Energy. Once they purchased off the loan for $3 million, they acquired all the assets of VPG before the end of 2013. Later, they created Mobility Ventures, now their wholly-owned subsidiary. Mobility Ventures took over the task of making and marketing the MV-1 vehicles with its dealer network. Thanks to such efforts, MV-1 production resumed in 2014.
MV-1 is a purpose-built vehicle with a ramp extending to the ground, thereby allowing your wheelchair passenger to get it. It allows wheelchair passengers to get in the half-empty front seat. There are holdings to tie down wheelchairs in both the front and back seats. Besides being a purpose-built vehicle, the MV-1 scores pretty well as a performance SUV too. The MV-1 project was continued by Mobility Ventures as AM-General acquired VPG in 2014.
Specifications
MV-1 was originally planned to be mounted on a GM pickup truck, featuring a GM drivetrain. But, the concept version featured a Roush design chassis. Also, the powertrain came from Ford Crown Victoria. Regardless, it has a simple and sturdy build quality. Simply put, the body-on-frame construction came along with entirely boxed rails. The popular Ford Modular V8 engine came with a capacity of 4.6 Liter and pumped out up to 248 hp. Tying up with Clean EnergyInc, VPG provided the CNG fuel option as well. Clean Energy Inc. is the largest supplier of CNG for all North American fleets. Given a CNG option, the MV-1 provided an estimated range of 290 miles, on the back of 3 Type-3 tanks integrated into the core design.
VPG themselves halted production in 2012 summers to redesign the tooling for a luxurious version, the MV-1 LX. The LX version enables you to control the access ramp at the comfort of your keyfob. In addition, it will feature wood trims as part of the luxe design. In the later stages, an up-and-advanced Ford 3 .7 L Ti-VCT V6 powered the 2015/1016 models. MV-1 provided a decent fuel economy of 14 miles per gallon in the city, 16 miles per gallon on the highway, and an average of a decent 15 miles per gallon.
MV-1 is the perfect wheelchair-passenger car. It launches a ramp down to the ground, allowing your wheelchair passenger to get in easily. Also, your wheelchair passenger can get into the front seat. It is not often provided in other purpose-built vehicles. Additionally, you enjoy a lot of space in the backseat
area. Even as an SUV, it accommodates a driver and 6 other passengers. The holdings tie down the wheelchair pretty comfortably in both the front seat and back seat area. He/she enjoys the safety of seat belts in both of the areas. He/she gets to enjoy the perfect ride experience in this car, than in anything else. Besides being efficiently purpose-built, it offers ample power and performance as an SUV. The traffic cones allow your passengers to get in comfortably during peak traffic conditions as well.
