The first generation Taurus went into production from 1985 to 1991. Designed by Jack Telnack, Ford assembled it at the Atlanta Assembly plant and Chicago Assembly plant. This mid-size car is based on the Ford DN5 platform. It offered three different engine options - 2.5 L HSC I4, 3.0 L Vulcan V6, and 3.8 L Essex V6. It came fitted with a 5-speed manual transmission. Additionally, they offer 3-speed, 4-speed, and 5-speed automatic.
Second Generation Taurus
The second-generation Taurus went into production from 1991 to 1995. Designed in 1998, Ford assembled it at the Atlanta Assembly plant and Chicago Assembly plant. Fifth Generation Taurus
The fourth generation Ford Taurus went into production from 2007 to 2009 for the model years 2008 to 2009. Designed by J Mays in 2005, Ford assembled it at the Chicago Assembly plant. It featured the 3.5 Duratec 35 V6 engine mated with a 6-speed automatic. It pumped out 264 horses and 300 Nm of torque.
Sixth Generation Taurus
Designed by Earl Lucas in 2007, Ford assembled it at the Chicago Assembly plant. It went into production from 2009 to 2019 for the model years 2010 to 2019. It featured a wide range of engines - 2.4 L Ecoboost turbocharged inline-4 pumping out 240 horses, 3.5 L Cyclone V6 pumping out 263 to 365 horses, and 3.7 L Cyclone Ti-VCT V6 pumping out 305 horses.

Ford introduced the seventh-generation Taurus at the 2015 Shanghai Auto Show. Changan Ford developed it by collaborating with Ford of Australia. The seventh-generation Taurus is derived from the Ford CD4 platform.
