It didn’t lack the competitiveness that was shown by the glorious V8s. Interestingly, the 5.0 EFI showed more balance and proved more fuel efficient. Flathead V8

The Flathead V8 is the first mass-produced V8. This new tech returned a more than impressive 65 hp. It enabled Ford to edge over its competitor – Chevrolet. Ford enjoyed the V8 advantage for more than 20 years. At the business end of the second decade, the horsepower grew to over 125 hp. The luxury cars featuring the Flathead became the most powerful in its class. Tuning potential in Flathead V8, made it desirable back then and even to this date.

427 V8 Big-Block

The company built the 427 V8 Big-Block to decimate competition in 1960s motorsport. This V8 featured forged crankshaft, solid lifters, and nickel-iron alloy bloc. Additionally, a side-oiling system keeps the engine lubed for a good long time. Ultimately, this engine lived up to its expectations by taking Le Mans to a 1966 victory. There are many memorable swimming moments of Ford, involving the 427 V8 Big-Block engine.

428 Cobra Jet

Thanks to the irrelevance of 427 Medium Risers in the sixties, Ford came up with the even bigger 7.0 L Cobra Jet V8. Cobra is more powerful and reliable, while still proving affordable to replace the Chevy 427 V8, Mopar’s 426 Hemi, and Pontiac 428 V8, strong competitors for Ford at that time. With the official billing of 335 hp and outside ratings of up to 450 hp, this engine entered many illegal street races in the late 60s and early 70s.

Boss 429

Seen as the true racing engine for the likes of NASCAR, the Boss 429 is the G.O.A.T to go under the hood of muscle cars. It’s wider than even the other big blocks, coming from Ford themselves. Also, it featured semi-hemi combustion and ensured better flow to produce more revs, power, and torque. Ford used this engine in some of their Mustangs and some editions of the Torino Talladega and Mercury Cyclone. Winning 30 races, this engine is in demand, any day in the U.S.A and abroad.

Voodoo V8

This is a large 2.5 L naturally aspirated V8, custom-made for the Mustang Shelbies. It featured in both GT350 and GT350R. Unforeseen to many at that time, Ford didn’t base the Voodoo on Coyote V8. With plain crankshaft and high-flow heads, it had a distinct look of its own. Additionally, the engine comprised heavy-duty internal parts and a similar exhaust system. With 526 hp, it was the most advanced and dependable engine of its time.

289 V8 Small-Block

The 298 V8 engine came in relatively lightweight and small-sized among Ford engines. It pumped up adequate power for an entry-level V8 on small to mid-sized cars. Also, being introduced in the sixties, it became the natural fit for Ford Mustang. Some of its top-profile iterations include the HiPo 289 and the Shelby GT350.
