Accura is the high-end, performance division of Honda, a renowned Japanese manufacturer. Primarily based in North America, they have been selling models ever since 1986. Since 1987, the brand sold over 100k units annually in the U.S. alone. The launch of the Acura coincides with the creation of JDM's Honda dealership sales channel, the Honda Clio. The Acura first brought the Honda's VTEC variable valve timing control system to the U.S. automotive markets. Introducing new tech, features, models, and lineups, they revived the brand post-2000, after a brief decline in the mid-1990s. Hence, used Acura SLX transmission ranks highly in technology even today.
The 'Acu' in Acura, is a Latin term loosely translated to being mechanically precise. The caliper in logo styling, a measuring tool represents precision and accuracy. Accura's success inspired other Japanese car manufacturers to launch their luxury marques in the United States. Toyota launching their Lexus and Nissan launching their Infiniti makes up for classic examples.Incidentally, Honda also intended to launch the Acura in Japan in early 2000s. Owing to financial crisis of 2007-08, their plans didn't eventuate. Despite initial success, Acura sales dropped drastically in the 1990s. But, they quickly revived their fortunes after 2000, thanks largely to Honda's technological advancements.
